Car Timeline is a UK vehicle admin app that helps you track MOT, tax, insurance, service history, documents, reminders and optional MOT Verdict reports.

This policy explains what information the app uses, why it is used, and how you can control it.

Information you provide or create in the app

Depending on how you use the app, Car Timeline may process:

• Vehicle registration numbers you enter.
• Vehicle details returned from DVLA or DVSA services, such as make, colour, tax status and MOT history.
• Insurance renewal dates you choose to save.
• Service, repair and maintenance records you add.
• Receipt or document photos you choose to attach to a vehicle.
• Local reminder settings.
• MOT Verdict purchase and transaction information.
• MOT Verdict report text generated for a vehicle.

How vehicle lookup works

When you enter a UK registration number, the app sends that registration to our backend service so it can request vehicle information from UK government vehicle data services, including DVLA and DVSA services.

This is necessary so the app can show MOT history, tax information and related vehicle details.

MOT Verdict and AI-generated reports

If you choose to buy a MOT Verdict, the app sends the vehicle registration and MOT history data to our backend so the report can be scored and written.

The MOT Verdict may use an AI provider to help generate plain-English report wording, such as the vehicle summary, character, roast or serious safety-focused explanation. The score and risk band are generated by backend logic before the wording is created.

We may process or retain limited MOT Verdict information, such as the registration number, MOT history used for the report, generated report text and purchase transaction identifier, to provide the feature, support failed or retried report generation, prevent duplicate fulfilment issues and investigate support requests.

Local storage on your device

Most app data is stored locally on your device, including your garage, saved vehicles, service records, insurance dates, reminders, receipt photos and saved MOT Verdict reports.

If you delete the app or clear the app's data, locally stored information may be removed from that device. The app does not currently provide a cloud account or automatic cloud backup.

Purchases

Purchases are handled by Apple App Store, Google Play and RevenueCat. These services process purchase events, product identifiers, transaction identifiers and related purchase status information so that paid features can be unlocked or restored.

Car Timeline does not receive or store your full payment card details.

Documents and photos

If you add receipt or document photos, they are stored locally on your device for use inside the app. Only choose photos you are comfortable storing in the app.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, the app may schedule local device notifications for MOT, tax or insurance dates. These reminders are created on your device.

Analytics, ads and tracking

Car Timeline does not currently use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking. We do not sell your personal data to advertisers.

Data sharing

We only share information where needed to provide the app's features, including with:

• DVLA and DVSA-related vehicle data services for vehicle lookup and MOT history.
• Backend hosting providers used to run the Car Timeline API.
• AI providers used to generate optional MOT Verdict wording.
• RevenueCat, Apple and Google for purchase handling.

Data security

Data sent between the app and our backend is transmitted using HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information needed to provide the app.

Your choices

You can:

• Delete individual vehicles from your garage.
• Delete service records, reminders, documents or receipt photos.
• Use the app's delete data option where available.

Children

Car Timeline is not intended for children. The app is designed for people managing vehicles and vehicle-related records.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy as the app changes. The latest version will be posted on this page.
